Privacy at Explordle

This page explains how the game uses browser storage, analytics, and external services. You can play without creating an account.
Your game data
Your daily guesses, answer order, completed games, streaks, theme scores, and sound preference are saved in this browser on this device. Shared adventures keep separate progress, and playing an older adventure does not change your daily streak. These saves are not synced to an Explordle account or player database. Gameplay events are also sent to Google Analytics as described below.
You can remove these saved games and preferences by clearing Explordle's site data in your browser settings. This resets your progress and scores. Blocking browser storage can prevent progress from being saved.
Inviting a friend
An invitation link includes the puzzle number, your result and guess pattern, and a random invitation identifier. Anyone with the link can see the shared score. It contains no name, account details, or location answer. Results are shared by players and are not verified rankings.
We save invitation identifiers and whether an invitation has been opened, started, or completed in this browser. These events, sharing actions, and return visits are sent to Google Analytics to understand whether invitations help people discover the game. A copy or share-sheet action does not tell us whom you sent an invitation to, or whether a message was delivered. We do not access your contacts.
Usage analytics
Explordle uses Google Analytics to understand how the game is used and where playback or gameplay needs improvement. The app sends page views, navigation choices, video identifiers and playback events, challenge identifiers, guesses and results, theme selections, sound and immersive-mode changes, map-link clicks, and share-button clicks. Map-link events describe the place shown in the game, not your device's location.
Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information about your browser and interactions. See how Google uses information from partner sites and Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on for more information and controls. Clearing local game data does not delete analytics already sent to Google.
Videos, images, and external links
Your browser requests video files from video.explordle.com and images from services such as Unsplash. These requests expose ordinary connection information, including an IP address, to the service receiving them.
Source videos, map links, video submissions, and social sharing may take you to YouTube, Google Maps, Google Forms, X, or an app you choose in your device's share sheet. Those services have their own privacy policies. Copying an invitation uses your clipboard; sharing sends the prepared text and link to the app you choose. Saving a postcard downloads an image to your device.
